The thing about travel, is that it takes you away from home.

Yeah..no shit Sherlock…

That might seem a little obvious.

But, I don’t mean simply in terms of location. I mean everything that makes it “home”.

The people, hobbies, places, and lifestyle. Everything you love about a specific place.

I’ve moved around a lot in the last seven years. Taken myself from London (England) to Vancouver (Canada), and then Squamish, with a few little detours along the way.

I’ve loved each place I lived for different reasons. But each time, I, thankfully, felt like I’d made an upgrade.

I thought for a long time I’d never leave London. Why would I? After all, it’s the best city in the world. I haven’t been everywhere of course, but Paris, Berlin, New York, and even Toyko haven’t taken it’s place in my heart. To be honest it’s probably nostalgia. But it has phenomenal food, fantastic live music, incredible architecture, an unrivalled arts scene, and all the shops you’ll ever need, and I simply loved riding through the hustle and bustle every day on my bike.

I definitely considered myself a City Boy back then.

It was a treat to check out the latest restaurant or bar or show. A good night out ended as the sun was rising.

And then I moved to Vancouver.

Honestly…not a great city.

Everyone says it’s beautiful.

It’s not.

If you’re interested in design…don’t go there.

The truth is, it’s a fairly uninspiring city, in an absolutely stunning location. Those mountain! Oof!

I used to walk down to the ocean every morning and just stare out over North Shore peaks. It was most beautiful in Autumn when it was just getting cold enough for snow to settle on the tops. On a crisp, blue skied morning, with the water gently lapping at the shore, that view was heaven.

Of course mountains aren’t just for looking at. They’re for playing in. And I did. Plenty.
