I read a beautiful line this week. It said:

The question “What should I do now?” is so rarely informed by the answer to “What can I do from here?”

It’s something I’ve been thinking a lot about lately. Talking about a lot more lately.

I’ve taking a 6 week writing course. (https://writeofpassage.com/). Trying to explore different ways I can showcase my experience in design, and reach new audiences that could become future clients. Each week, for the first two weeks we are given a writing prompt.

Such as:

(I’ll post some of my responses at the end of this piece if you wish to read them)

We’re encouraged to explore and stress test our ideas through conversation with other members of the cohort.

And each week I have this battle between my head and my heart.

I came here for my business. Yes, each time I sit down to write, it’s something else that comes to mind first. The benefits of experimenting with ways of living. Of doing hard things. Of creating something new and sharing it with the world. Of being unconventional. And, the hardest one of all - of getting out of your own way.

Because in the end, it’s almost always ourselves that get in the way of pursuing our dreams. Whether it’s changing jobs, moving abroad, starting a company, learning a language, or anything else you had in mind, it’s usually you that talks yourself out of it.

“Now isn’t the right time”

“My partner doesn’t want to”

“I don’t know how”

“I might not like it”

“I’ll do it at some point”

“I’m not strong enough”
